NOTE: Before trying to add any network printers, be sure to know the printer's hostname. You'll need that information for later. All available printers here. You can also find the hostname on a label on the front of any printer distributed by IT.

NOTE: You can either follow the manufacturer's installer/software solution, or you can download the basic printer drivers and add the printer directly through Windows. However, make sure you've downloaded and extracted the proper printer drivers or appropriate software and know where the drivers are located once downloaded! While Brother will let you choose where to extract the driver contents, HP will tell you where it plans to extract contents.

Adding a Network Printer

  1. Make sure you have downloaded the HP Drivers for Windows FIRST. (Download now if you haven't.) Open up Control Panel and select View Printers and Devices.

  2. Click on the Add a Printer button in the toolbar

  3. Click on the link at the bottom of the dialog box that says, The Printer I want isn't listed

  9. You'll see the that the previous dialog box will be pointing at your selected driver location. Click OK.

  10. Now you can choose the HP Color LaserJet Pro M478f-9f PCL-6 (V4) (or V3, depending on which you downloaded) and then click Next.

  11.  Rename the printer, if you wish. Then, click Next

  12. Make sure to leave printer Sharing off. Select Do not share this printer
